We are gathering on the unceded and ancestral lands of the syilx people, with the intention to honor, respect and care for all living things, the tmixʷ.

On December 7th, 2024 the NDP membership and guests were invited to the inaugural AGM for OLWSK, a new Okanagan riding that spans neighbourhoods in and around Kelowna and West Kelowna.

Pamela and Grouse Barnes from Westbank First Nations welcomed participants to syilx territories and shared their understanding of caring for the people and land where we live.

We then heard from three guests speakers: Richard Cannings, NDP Member of Parliament for South Okanagan – West Kootenays, reported on the work being done in the House of Commons; BC NDP Candidate Loyal Wooldridge and Volunteer Coordinator Amarit Brar spoke about their experiences in the recent provincial election; and Disability Advocate Spring Hawes, pointed out that the NDP could clearly articulate their position on meeting the needs of people with disabilities and attract more voters in the next election.

From there, we voted to adopt the OLWSK Constitution and Bylaws and held the election for the OLWSK Executive. The following are the current executive members as of December 7th, 2024:

President – Jeanette Angel
Vice-President – Trevor McAleese
Financial Agent – Susan Davenport
Secretary – Nicole Cabrejos
YND Representative – Tivadar Vaski
Member-at-large – Doug Brown
